CLOUD9 HI-FI STEREO RECEIVER

Cloud9 receiver, part of the premium home series. Cloud9 is a fictional audio brand that pays homage to the trend of transparent products prominent in the 1990s and early 2000s. My challenge to myself in this project was in translating a 90’s-inspired transparent design language into a receiver, a product that is most often made from aluminum sheet metal. Considering that the user interface is the focus and primary touchpoint of the product, I incorporated a sheet of frosted plexiglass as the faceplate of the control area. To emphasize the effect of the frosted plexiglass, I included a ventilation hole pattern. All other details —from the orange power cable to the knurled control knobs and use of engineering-driven mechanical forms—further contribute to the brand’s design language.
